Heart Attack - Know the Symptoms

My family and I went to the river a couple of days before Memorial Day. We spent a lot of time in the water, in the sun, and eating things we shouldn't. That night I went to bed feeling very tired and fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow. Less than 30 minutes after I laid down, a sharp and persistent pain in my chest woke me up. I sat up and waited for it to go away. But after 15 minutes, it was still there.

I called Floyd and asked him to look up the symptoms of heart attacks in women. I knew they could be different from men, but never bothered to look them up. I only had pain in the center of my chest. Everything else seemed normal.

After waiting about another 15 minutes and the pain still didn't go away no matter what I did, we called the paramedics who recommended I go to the hospital asap. To make a long story short, it turns out that I probably did NOT have a heart attack, though I did have enough of the symptoms to get everyone worried. They did a battery of tests that showed I'm very healthy. (some of the tests were not fun and I don't want to ever have to do them again).

But, it all got me thinking. It could have been very serious. The doctors still don't know exactly what I experienced and I've decided to begin living a healthier life style which for me means eating more fruits and vegies, less fat and sugar, and exercising a little more. Also, I did some reading on heart attacks to become a little better educated. If you're interested in knowing some of the symptoms women are more likely to experience, visit the American Heart Association.

Yikes! Glad you're ok, thanks for raising the issue. Hopefully you won't have any more episodes. Now that I'm 50,(yikes again!) I think about these things a lot more.

Hi. I am so glad you are ok! I can just imagine how scary that was for you. It is always better to call and make sure than to have worse problems later. Take good care of yourself! blessings, Kathleen

Oh My! I've had that before. So scary. I didn't go to the DR for it. I probably should have.

I am so glad you are doing well. Nice to know you ARE healthy.

It's so hard to go on vacation and NOT eat those bad foods. I guess you just have to remember to ask for a side of steamed veggies....and then actually eat them! LOL!

Glad to hear you had somewhat of a good trip.

Thanks for comming by my blog!

I hope your gonna be alright, it makes you stop and want to start eatin' right and exercising. It is funny how we take care of everyone else, but not ourselves.

Hi Patricia!
Thanks so much for your sweet comments and for visiting me! My husband IS a sweetheart and I am truly blessed.
The same thing happened to my DIL about a month ago. She also went to the hospital and they found nothing. She had been under alot of stress at work and we think it may have been a major panic attack. She too is trying to be better about diet and exercise. She was quite scared and we were all terrified!
I'm so glad you are both alright!
Big Hugs to you, Sherry

Oh Patricia, I am so glad that it wasn't a heart attack. Have you had a stress test done on your heart? I have a heart murmur and it was found when I had a full cardio evaluation when I was 19 - otherwise I would have had no idea. Sometimes acid reflux can mimick a heart attack, too. It helps to also sleep with your head propped up on a pillow and this keeps any acid from backing up in your esophagus.

Hugs to you,
Becky

Oh Tricia, I just found your page - I wish I had known/that Floyd had called or emailed.
I am glad you're doing well, I miss you here in California - esp on July 4. Still miss you at church and circle and small group too. I'm looking forward to you getting some things on line again. (Not sure when I'll look at this again, back to 70 hrs/week with the day job)
Love to you and miss you - Jac
