Have you ever noticed how modern house coats and bath robes are lumpy squares of fabric that don't emphasize a woman's shape? Well, truth be told, I've filled out a little and really need some help to "create" a more feminine shape. So since I can't find a ready made feminine robe, I decided to make one. The closest thing to what I was looking for is this Simplicity Victorian Robe pattern. It took me forever to find it at a reasonable affordable price (which I finally did on eBay)
The next step was to find just the right fabric - all NINE yards of it. Then of course there were the yards and yards of lace. Putting it all together was fairly easy, but adding all that lace was a test in patience for me. But I did finish it and it really didn't take as long as I thought it would. It's not even close to being authentic in design, but still, it gives me a much nicer shape than the square modern ones.
I wear it almost every night. It's not as heavy or cumbersome as you might think and it's a lot of fun to wear. I feel like a princes floating around the house. Now I need the perfect PJ's to go with it.

I can tell you are a girlie girl...and I am one too so like the old saying goes..."it takes one to know one". You are right, you feel like a princess, so feminine wearing it! I had a gown that I treasured much like this one with little pin tucks in the bodice. I wore it for years until it wore out. I had a penoir when we firwst were married and it, too, made me feel so pretty. Really now I'm too warm at night to wear that much of a gown. Yours is just beautiful!!!!
Oh, my goodness! That is stunning! You did such a beautiful job and I can certainly see why you would feel like a princess wearing that gorgeous robe! Love it!
OMGosh I want one too! It turned out Beautiful!!

How pretty! Don't you just feel like a victorian princess in that? You did a wonderful job!~Hugs, Patti
OH MY GOODNESS! That robe is exquisite! What a great job you did! I think it's perfect. What kind of slippies do you wear with it? Certainly nothing like the UGGS I wear, I'm sure. Has to be something sweet. And Jammies...yes..you MUST have just the perfect jammies! You must remember to show us when you find them.
Oh, and the wagon? I'll find one. I am determined. However even when I have found them all beat up and and a mess..and I have seen a couple of them...they are not even recognizable except for the faded letters on the poor rusted things. It's pathestic. But..you are right, sweet friend, one will appear. :)
Hugs..

Your robe is so elegant and beautiful. I love the way it turned out. You did a wonderul job.
Very nice. And I do appreciate your comment that it's not terribly authentic, but still nice! I have a pattern for a 1940s era robe that I had planned to make this winter. As of now, though, it still hasn't happened. Oops!
I came over from Starkey Hollow because of the vintage linen header...I love old linens and collect tablecloths. Very fun blog you have and your decorating and sewing projects are super! I love the Halloween post and the ideas are just so cute! I have many vintage Halloween post cards too. Fun hobby!
Wow this is so pretty! You are really talented. Glad I found your blog!
Ditto to all the above comments! You are so clever with a needle and thread, and I can just imagine you swanning around your home like a lovely princess!
Oh my! Love it. That turned out amazing. You're right it is so feminine and romantic.
Oh Patricia...it's gorgeous!! I love the old-fashioned looking nightwear, too! I have a couple of patterns (well, actually, quite a few patterns) for items like these. :)
Wow that's so pretty...how clever to make something so gorgeous. So much nicer than any you can buy. I have the most horrendous dark blue furry garment that should be burrnt at once!
